15 items to assess whether your business is ready to implement AI. Be honest — this is for you.

Foundation

You have a clear understanding of what AI can and can't do (or you've read our What Is AI guide). You have at least one repetitive, text-based task that takes 30+ minutes per week. You're open to changing how you work — not just adding AI to a broken process. You have someone on your team (or yourself) who will own AI adoption.

Tools & Access

You have access to at least one AI tool (ChatGPT, Claude, or Perplexity). You have a paid plan for at least one AI tool (free tiers are too limited for business use). Your team has basic computer literacy — they can use web-based tools comfortably. You have reliable internet access (AI tools require constant connectivity).

Data & Security

You know what data you can and can't share with AI tools (client data, proprietary info, etc.). You have a simple data classification system: public, internal, confidential. You understand that AI tools may store your inputs (and you've reviewed the privacy policy). You have a process for verifying AI-generated content before it goes out the door.

Mindset & Expectations

You understand AI won't replace humans — it amplifies them. You're willing to invest 2-4 hours learning prompting skills before expecting ROI. You have realistic expectations — AI is a tool, not a magic wand.

6–10 items checked: You're partially ready. Focus on the gaps — especially data security and tool access. A coaching session could help you bridge the gap quickly.
